Vital Research recently completed the implementation of the second statewide resident and family satisfaction survey and collaborated with Scripps Gerontology Institute at Miami University and the Benjamin Rose Institute to conduct the surveys. Vital Research, LLC collected the data and analyzed results using over 3,000 face-to-face resident interviews and over 4,000 family surveys in the state's 92 nursing homes. Rhode Island is the third state to mandate face-to-face interviews with nursing home residents for public reporting. Other states that have completed statewide satisfaction surveys with Vital Research using face-to-face interviews for data collection are Minnesota and Ohio.

Ohio Department of Aging

The Ohio Department of Aging commissioned Vital Research twice to interview residents in all nursing homes in the state. The results of the survey are posted on the on-line Ohio Long Term Care Consumer Guide.


Meadowlark Hills

Meadowlark Hills has become a national and international model for changing culture in healthcare. Healthcare residents of Meadowlark Hills live in one of six unique households, ranging in size from thirteen to twenty-four persons. Vital Research conducted a resident survey right before the move to the household model, approximately eight months into the model, and two years after this culture change, showing a steady increase in overall satisfaction.

SCPH has been providing quality housing and healthcare for seniors since 1955. Currently, the organization serves more than 3,142 residents living in six Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), two Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly, three Assisted Living Communities, two Nursing Facilities, two Adult Day Health Care Centers, two Home Care Programs and 15 Affordable Housing Communities in California.

The opinions of residents are crucial to know whether communities are providing a high quality of life. As the only firm to survey hearing-and cognitively-impaired residents, Vital Research has returned to St. Paul Homes six times to survey all Skilled Nursing residents.

In 2004 and 2005, Vital Research measured resident satisfaction in six Skilled Care facilities, seven Assisted Living facilities, six Independent Living facilities, and 12 Affordable Housing facilities. Vital Research also measured satisfaction with Home Care, Adult Day Care, Care Coordination, and Employee Quality of Work Life. Vital Research collaborated with Eskaton to create customized questions focused on the mission statement, core values, core competencies, branding, and vision statement.


Kisco Senior Living

Twice a year, Vital Research measures resident and associate (employee) satisfaction at 24 communities. Vital Research provides Kisco Senior Living with a customized survey process, including a menu driven Access database that allows the generation of reports for each of the communities, and includes in-depth demographic analyses.


Minnesota Department of Human Services

In 2005 and 2006, Vital Research measured resident satisfaction in all 400 nursing home facilities in the state of Minnesota. During the 3-month data collection period in 2005, more than 13,000 residents interviews were completed. The 2006 resident satisfaction and quality of life measurement has just been completed with approximately 14,000 interviews. The results of the survey are made public and can be viewed on the Minnesota report card:
